Admission Requirements


Admission Requirements for Bachelor's Degree Study programmes
  • International Students must have at least a secondary education diploma or equivalent certificate recognised by the Lithuanian Government. Students lacking this can be accepted if they have a proof of the successful completion of at least one year of studies at a higher education institution in any country (legalized documents).

Admission Requirements for Master's Degree Study programmes

  •  Bachelor's degree or its equivalent (legalized official transcripts required).
  •  Acceptance by the Dean's Office of the chosen faculty.

Documents witnessing education acquired abroad are subject to legalization, if they have been issued in the state having not acceded to the 1961 Hague Convention concerning abolition of legalization requirements of documents issued in foreign countries, or approved by "Apostille" if they have been issued in the state having acceded to the above mentioned Convention.

Legalization is necessary to allow documents issued in one country to be accepted and used by institutions of other countries.

Consular legalization of the document is a consular officer's certification that the signature, seal and duties of the undersigned individual on a document are genuine.

Note: You should pass a double legalization of your educational documents:

  • First, the educational documents should be legalized by the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs or the diplomatic mission or consular post of the country where education was received.
  • Second, the documents should be legalized by the Lithuanian diplomatic mission or consular post in the country where education was received or in the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.

    Then you have to apply for recognition at Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (CQAHE) which is an independent public agency. The Centre implements the external quality assurance and gives the University the answer if we can accept you for studies. More info: www.skvc.lt

Application fee

All applicants for 2008 and beyond will attract a EUR 95 non-refundable application fee. The fee must accompany the application. The fee can be paid with a Bank draft (international cheque) to Siauliai University.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees are charged to all international students.  The first year students are sent an invoice of tuition fee prior of visa procedure.

The following tuition fees for one academic year (2008-2009 academic year) are set:

Bachelor's Degree Study Programmes:

2550 EUR/academic year

Master's Degree Study Programmes:

3000 EUR/academic year

Tuition fees may vary due to changes in MSF (Minimum Subsistence Figure) or due to appropriate Senate resolution.

Additional Language Courses coulsd be chosen together with Bachelor or Master‘s study programmes. These courses cannot be chosen separately. Minimum 10 students are required for the group of one programme to be formed (320 EUR/semester).

Preparatory courses for foreign applicants in order to prepare them for International studies at Siauliai University:

1. Intensive Lithuanian Language course - 96 academic hours

2. Intensive English Language course - 96 academic hours

3. IT course - 32 academic hours

4. Specialisation courses 32 - 48 academic hours

Preparatory courses are organised only at spring semester (February - June)

Fee for Preparatory courses -  1000 Eur

All payments can be made to the University account:

Refund policy for International Students Fees

If a student's visa application is refused, a full refund of fees will be made (exept 95 EUR application fee). Evidence of refusal is required.

Money When You Arrive

Students have to open a bank account in Šiauliai with the sufficient amount of approx. 3000 EUR/year (9600 Lt). The bank statement from the bank is required.

All expenses related to extension of visa, copying literature, re-examination, and medical services are the responsibility of the student.

IMMIGRATION REGULATIONS

A foreigner who intends to have education in the Republic of Lithuania will be issued a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) for one academic year. International Relations Office provides all necessary documents for the TRP when the candidate has been enrolled at Siauliai University (SU).

The student has to apply to the nearest Embassy/Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania for TRP. The person is provided with a short-term visa by the above-mentioned institution as soon as the Migration Department in Lithuania confirms his/her application for TRP (the revision of the documents may take more than 2 months). The TRP card can be obtained only upon arrival in the host country within 7 days.

Short-term (C) visa - 35.00 EUR
TRP documents administration fee - 87 EUR (300Lt) (free of  charge for students)
TRP card - 6 EUR (20 Lt)

The TRP allows up to one-year stay in Lithuania, and have to be renewed before 2 months student's visa expires. The procedure of the temporary residence permit includes a compulsory medical health insurance (min. 20 000 Lt, aprox. 6000 EUR).
