APPLIED BIOLOGY
Qualifying degree: Bachelor of Biology.
Study duration - 4 year.

Study programmes of Applied Biology are very popular at universities of the Europe Union and other countries; though in Lithuania it was presented for the first time - at Šiauliai University. The study program consists of 160 credits. After 4 years of studies the graduates will obtain a speciality of high qualification of a multidimensional biologist and will be able to join the development of existing structures as well as to start modern business successfully, to participate in establishment of new centres of recreation, rural development and tourism as well as centres of zootherapy and others of biological branch.
ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH
Qualifying degree: Bachelor of Ecology and Environmental Studies.
Study duration - 4 year.
Study form: full-time.
This programme is designed for training specialists who, according to their competence, analyse the ecological system, i.e. reciprocal relations between animate and inanimate nature as well as running physical, chemical and biological processes there, peculiarities of adjustment of organisms to the environment, distribution of animals and plants and affecting conditions. The future Bachelor's Degree holders study a number of subjects on ecology and environmental studies as well as biomedical sciences related to it. Besides basic study subjects on ecology, courses on environmental sciences are included into the programme.
The graduates will be trained for work at the system of the Ministry of Environment, they will be able to hold positions of specialists of preservation of the environment at municipalities, reserves, regional parks, enterprises; or the Bachelor's Degree holders will be able continue with Master's studies.
Optometry
Qualifying degree: Bachelor of Physics
Professional qualification: Optometrist.
Study duration - 4 year (160 credits/240 ECTS credits).
Study form: full-time.
The study programme includes courses in general, theoretical and experimental physics, anatomy, physiology, pathology of the eye, optics of the eye, optic technologies, neurophysiology of the Sight System, eye diseases, therapy of the eye, choice subjects and other subjects. The students will gain knowledge necessary for a specialist optometrist on vision anomalies, correction of vision as well as in fields of optical technologies. While carrying out analytical research the students will obtain experience of work with modern optometric equipment. The programme also includes two optometric practices. A lot of attention is giving to bachelor work.

ORNAMENTAL GARDENING
Qualifying degree: Bachelor of Forestry.
Study duration - 4 year.
Study form: full-time, extramural.
The program is designed to train qualified specialists in landscape design and gardening. It includes general courses in chemistry, computer studies, mathematics and history of culture, psychology as well as specialized theoretical courses in biology, agriculture, botany, ecology and zoology.
As the program leads directly to the Bachelor Degree in Forestry, courses in forestry, dendrology and forest management are included. Students, specializing in landscape gardening, are provided with the knowledge of landscape design, dendroflora reproduction, phyto design, management of parks and recreation zones, greenhouse botany and landscape horticulture. Field studies of botany, zoology, forestry control as well as research activities are included into the program. Lecturers deliver courses in economics, management and marketing with sound practical experience in business management.
University graduates awarded the Bachelor Degree in Forestry have careers in forestry, local governance, research and public institutions as well as in private sector.
The study program provides a good base of knowledge for postgraduate studies and further qualification in engineering.
PHYSICS
Qualifying degree: Bachelor of Physics.
Study duration - 4 year.
Study form: full-time.
The program of 160 credits provides basic training in physics. Courses in general physic, as well as in theoretical and experimental physics are read. The courses of general and experimental physics concentrate on experiments. The program includes few courses in mathematics. Students are trained to operate databases and gain basics of programming and modeling. Alongside with special updates courses in physics, mathematics and IT, a number of elective courses from humanities and social sciences are offered in the program.
The study program provides a good base of knowledge for postgraduate studies. Basic training in physics and modern technologies is also appropriate for careers in IT sector of industrial enterprises. A one-year professional study program of 40 credits provides with a teacher of physics qualification.
Physics and informatics
Qualifying degree: Bachelor of Physics, Schoolmaster of Physics and Informatics.
Study duration - 4 year.
Study form: full-time.
The study program of 180 credits provides basic training in physics. The program includes courses in general, theoretical and experimental physics, seven courses in computer sciences and four courses in higher mathematics. Students are provided with knowledge in education, psychology, didactics of teaching physics and computer science. A six-week placement at school is also included into the program.
The program is appropriate for careers at schools as teachers of physics and computer science.
The study program provides a good base of knowledge for postgraduate studies.
OPTOMETRY
Professional qualification: Optometrist.
Study duration - 1 year.
Study form: extramural.
This is an autonomous, regulated profession of health care as it is based on research of vision science. The students will gain knowledge necessary for a specialist optometrist on vision anomalies, correction of vision as well as in fields of optical technologies. While carrying out analytical research the students will obtain experience of work with modern optometric equipment.
Having both basic education in Physics or of a medic and qualification of an optometrist the graduates will be able to perform a qualified work at eye and vision system's primary care centres (optics shops, optometric centres).
PHYSICS
Qualifying degree: Master of Physics.
Study duration - 2 year.
Study form: full-time.
Students, who choose this program, must have bachelor's degree diploma and knowledge of physics, higher mathematics, pedagogy and didactics of physics. Students, who have not these courses, have to complete supplementary studies.
The students will gain knowledge of modern physics and didactics, practical skills, experience of research work. Academic studies last for 3 semesters. The 4th semester is devoted to practice and preparation of Master's thesis. Students who work as teachers have a possibility to do practice in their working place. It is possible to combine work and studies.

The program is appropriate for careers at schools and universities, other education and science institutions, commercial as well as state organizations.
